We will certainly be praying for you and your family for the days, months, and years ahead. Mr. Si was a significant part of our Phoenix Lake Joy church service and we certainly were continually blessed by his presence and songs. He was always ready for service waiting on us to get there more than 30 minutes early. He will certainly be missed, but we know that he is singing with the heavenly choir and loving every minute. The service was beautiful and a lovely tribute to an amazing man with a life well lived and certainly loved by all who met him. He is leaving an amazing legacy in the lives of family and friends who have forever been changed for the better for having known and loved him.

Remember how gruff he looked and sounded but admired him as an educator and an administrator.

I was very fortunate to have gotten to know and take care of him the past 4 months at The Phoenix at Lake Joy. I was lucky to have met him. I remember my first day at the job during breakfast. I was so overwhelmed and doe-eyed and Mr. Silas called me over to him and talked to me, calming me down. Every day since then that I worked, at every meal, we talked. It was brief, but it was enough. He always had this sweet, caring smile. You couldn't help but smile back. We had just reinstated the Garden Club and he was so ecstatic about it and wanting to learn more about house plants. He loved gardening and that's just another thing we clicked on. I have so many good things to say about my sweet Mr. Silas. He is already VERY sorely missed here at home (The Phoenix at Lake Joy). Rest in peace, and I already can't wait until we meet again one day.

Silas was superintendent when I was in jr. high. He handed me an award at awards day and said "Son, you can do anything you want in life." I've always remembered that he cared enough to those words. When I was an adult and he was re-elected in the 80's, he told me he couldn't relax until he knew all the kids on the busses were safely home. And I also remember that laugh and smile. We hope to see you again one day. Thanks for making us all feel special.

I was not a student who necessarily stood out as far as grades are concerned UNTIL I received a command to take Mr. Pittman's Americanism vs Communism class as a Senior. The first time I heard Mr. Pittman call my name "Miss Hines, I EXPECT an A on your test tomorrow!" I thought I would die of pure fright! However, I gave him "A's" the entire semester. I had no clue he knew my name but have respected him and his demand for excellence in me for a lifetime. I only saw him once in a chance meeting in 2009 while on a trip with my widowed mother and found out how much HE respected my beloved grandmother Lois Feagle. It made me appreciate his influence even more. He will be sorely missed as I am certain I am not the only student whose life he touched. I pray for peace and healing to his family and loved ones. RIP Mr. Pittman.

Uncle Si was the uncle that everyone wished that they had. His stories and laughter were the best. His presence was always known if he was in the room. I will cherish all the memories and so thankful for that I have them. He was on my top people list for sure. My last words with him was on the phone just a week ago and we both told each other that we loved each other before we hung up. Going to miss him so very much. Thank you Jesus for such a outstanding man and uncle

Dr. Pittman was my Americanism vs Communism teacher during the middle sixties. Although I was scared to death of him he was an excellent teacher at a time when the nation was very concerned about the Russian threat.
After college I became an elementary teacher and loved his out of the box thinking on teaching and assisting students in their everyday life needs so they could come to school ready to learn!
He will be remembered fondly. ❤️

I can same the same, an excellent teacher but scared me to death. He would call on a student out of the blue to give an extemporaneous speech on a topic he threw out, such as bubble gum. Being very shy, I was petrified. His Americanism vs. Communism was so informative and should be taught today.

Dr. Pittman was a wonderful, loving, and kind person. I had him in high school. I too, was afraid of him, that rough voice and non-smile facial expression would get you every time, I soon learned he was a big old teddy bear. Loved this man. He was a great person. A big support in building the Kindergarten Center facility in our county. RIP my friend.
