The staff at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home knows that the loss of a loved one is often an overwhelming time for a family. The period of time following a funeral can also be difficult and complicated. We understand that your grief, your questions, andyou concerns do not stop just because the funeral has concluded. Here at Heritage, our job does not end after the funeral arrangements or after the funeral service has been held. We are here to continue to care for you long after your loved one's funeral.
The support and care provided to families and the community after a funeral is just as important as helping create a meaningful funeral or memorial service. Here at Heritage we've established an Aftercare Program that offers our client family members assistance and the additional suppor they need, free of charge. The purpose of our aftercare program is to extend the care we provide family members and friends into the time following a death of a loved one, helping them deal with the emotional, physical and social changes that inevitably follow. Our Family Care Coordinator, Lauren Harris, along with the rest of the staff here at Heritage, understand that everyone experiences grief uniquely and we are here to help you to meet your indiviual needs however and whenever we can, every step of the way.
Grief Support Group
Our Helping Hearts Support Group meets each month here at Heritage. This group is provided to anyone who is grieving and in need of a hand to hold or an ear to listen. Our group leader is Mrs. Cathy Miller, Counselor for Compassionate Friends.
We will be planning various social events throughout the year for people in our Aftercare Program as well as people in the community to come together in an informal setting to talk, share memories, and just enjoy the company of one another. We will be posting the information for each planned event on our website and our Facebook page, so be on the lookout for what's to come!
Each December we hold our annual Candlelight Service of Remembrance for the families we have served over the years. Everyone is welcome to join us for this special program of hope and peace to carry us into the Christmas Season. Each family also receives an "In Loving Memory" angel ornament with their loved one's name engraved on the front to honor those who have passed.
Meet Our Family Care Coordinator
Lauren Harris has joined the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home staff as our Family Care Coordinator to assist people who are grieving the loss of their loved ones by providing them with the opportunity to become involved in our Aftercare Program. Lauren graduated from Georgia College and State University in May of 2015 with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. She has always had a strong passion to help others, and she has joined our team to do just that. As our Family Care Coordinator, Lauren will be working to provide resources and information to those who are grieving, as well as offering her assistance and a lending ear to those who need someone to talk to. Along with directing this new program, Lauren is working to become a Certified Grief Counselor so that she can begin offering individualized as well as family grief counseling here at the funeral home. Grief is different for everyone, and our Family Care Coordinator is here to help meet your individual needs every step fo the way.
About Our Helpful Materials Available To You
We understand that planning a funeral after the loss of a loved one is not easy and we would like to help make this experiences as comfortable and carefree as possible. We provide the families we serve with an after loss checklist that hightlights important informaiton that should be completed as the funeral arrangements are being made. We also provide information on Benefits for Veterans and Social Security, making sure our families are well-informed on what to expect.
Our lending library can be found here at the funeral home and consists of books that aim to help not only with going through the grieving process, but also understanding it. We have several books on hand that you can come in and check out as you please, and return them to us once you are done. If there is a book you would like to read that we do not have, or if there is a specific topic you would like to read on, just let us know and we can get those books ordered for you.
